Custom “Laszlo” Bat Distortion

I had a great time designing and building this custom distortion pedal for a new client! I’ve got my Bat Distortion pedal on sale at Jensen’s Guitar in Longmont Colorado, including one that’s on the store’s “demo board” that people can test out. This client saw my bat artwork, and immediately thought of Laszlo Cravenworth from What We Do in the Shadows, screaming out “bat!” and turning into a bat. He emailed me with a concept idea he’d seen from a tattoo artist, and I created a similar image in a line art style, so it could be etched into the metal case.

The circuit itself is the Bat Distortion, which is my take on a Pro Co Rat, and a modified Turbo Rat, all in one. It’s very low-noise, and between the two toggle switch settings, you get a really wide range of distortion – from a sweet bluesy grit, to a vicious metal scream.

I love doing these custom art pedals, especially when the idea is so cool!

The client sent me this awesome tattoo of Laszlo turning into a bat as the inspiration image (source unknown)
