Valerie has performed across the Front Range since 2013, both as a solo artist, in songwriting showcases, and as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist in the blues rock band VoodooJulia. Her style lends well to both large stages and intimate house concerts, as well as fundraisers, weddings, gallery openings, restaurants and breweries.
She has been featured on KGNU radio in multiple “Women in Song” specials, has appeared on a songwriting podcast, and regularly livestreams to her YouTube channel.
Originally from Texas, Valerie grew up immersed in music, as a violinist since age 4, a vocalist, and on stage as part of the local children’s theatre company. She was an active choir member in church, school, and regional competitions throughout her childhood and into college, and taught herself guitar beginning at age 12.
After college, music took a backseat to her career as an artist and graphic designer until her mid-30s, when she rediscovered her love of sharing music in community. Since 2013, she has played on dozens of local stages, and is the organizer of the local Acoustic Music Community group, with over a thousand local members. Valerie also enjoys participating in the local open mic community, and busking on the Pearl Street Mall on a sunny afternoon. Each Friday she hosts a musical livestream on her YouTube channel, @ValerieBhatMusic.
When not performing, Valerie works as a licensed independent artist and writer. She is based out of her private studio in North Boulder, where she also builds custom guitar effect pedals and hand-etched copper jewelry. She has been married to her college sweetheart for over 20 years, and is the proud aunt to 6 amazing nieces & nephews.
